Browser Issues?

Browser Issue: Java 1.6.0_29

Oracle released Java 6 update 29 on Oct. 10th.
This update breaks key functionality in eLearning Commons (Blackboard Vista 8) for person using PCs running the Windows operating system. Macintosh computers use a different Java and appear to be unaffected.

 

Solution: update to Java 1.6.0_30

 

Browser Issue: Internet Explorer 9

Internet Explorer version 9 is not fully compatable with eLearning Commons and is not an approved browser for use with eLC. However, it appears to work just fine in compatability mode.

Enable Compatibility Mode for all Web sites by using Internet Explorer 8 or 9

 

eLearning Commons is powered by Blackboard Learning System Enterprise License Release 8 SP4.
Blackboard maintains a list of Supported Browsers, Operating Systems and Java versions.

If you are having trouble with eLC, start with the browser check, allow pop-up windows for www.elc.uga.edu, clear your browser's cache, clear your Java cache, and verify that your computer has an approved version of Java. Detailed instructions are available below.

Java Security Certificate

After you log in to the eLearning Commons System, you will be prompted to accept a Java Security Certificate.
You must click Yes or Always to ensure that Learning System functionality using Java will work properly in your browser.

Browser Check

The Browser Check appears in a pop-up window and checks the following items:

  1. Which browser you're using.
  2. Cookies (you must have cookies enabled)
  3. Javascript (you must have javascript enabled)
  4. Pop-Up Blockers (you must allow pop-up windows from www.elc.uga.edu)
  5. Java (you must have a correct version of Java installed)

Allow pop-up windows for www.elc.uga.edu

Clear your browser's cache.

Clear your computer's Java cache.

Java Requirements - Get the correct version of Java.

Java Version 6 update29 is not compatable with eLC. If you're running earilier versions of Java (1.6.0_27 or earilier), do not update to the most recent version.
